How JS Design came to be

My name is Joseph Schmid.  I began my journey in the jewelry industry in 2002 as I attended Minneapolis Community and Technical College.  I knew almost immediately that it was something that I was going to love to do and soon after realized that it was something I was going to be good at.

During my time at MCTC I was awarded first place in the Minnesota Jewelers Association Student Design Competition.  In 2004 I started an apprenticeship in Eden Prairie at a high end, all custom jewelry store.  It was there that I learned how the industry works.  It was also where I learned how to fine tune my design and bench skills as I trained under one of the best custom jewelers in the Minneapolis/St. Paul metro area.  I also graduated with Honors in 2004 with an A.A.S. Degree in Jewelry Repair and Manufacturing and an Occupational Certificate in Gemology and Diamond Grading.   

In 2007,  I bought my own equipment and opened my own shop.  In 2009,  it was time to move north.  I grew up in northern Minnesota and knew that the best way to tap into my creative potential was to leave the metro for the woods and to go home. 

I have made hundreds of pieces and drawn I don't know how many designs.  Every custom piece has a buyer before it is started and is finished to the highest standard of quality.

Although we offer mass production jewelry through catalog order we do not carry an inventory of it.  This lack of overhead allows me to stay competitively priced with the big stores while offering a superior product. We also offer loose diamonds and gemstones.
